An incident is reported of a municipal councillor who has asked "ado ... are you a thug?" and had given a blow on the ear to a person who had come to Seeduwa police station to lodge an entry against the former; within the police premises itself and had even gone to the extent of making a false complaint against the person who was so assaulted. A jailor who was injured as a result of the blow has been hospitalised and is undergoing treatment.

The member of the Negombo Municipal Council who is responsible for the assault is Mr. Dayal Nilanga (UNFP) who has dealt this blow on the jailor inside the police while the latter was a jailor was employed at the Negombo Prisons named Samantha Dissanayaka and is presently under treatment at Negombo hospital.

Hospital sources say that as a result of the blow, one of his ears has been injured. The said jailor had gone to Seeduwa police station day-before-yesterday night to inquire about an incident involving a relative brother of his whose luxury jeep had been taken into custody by Seeduwa police on a complaint lodged by the aforementioned municipal councillor. It is mentioned in the statement given by the victim to Hospital police that on that occasion the municipal councillor who was at the police station at that time had asked him, "ado ... are you the thug?" in an aggressive manner and had dealt him a blow. The jailor further told the police that subsequent to the assault, the municipal councillor had given a call from his mobile phone to a high police officer in North-Western province and had even take further steps to make a complaint to him saying that he (jailor) had come there with a weapon with the intention of plundering. He also mentioned that on this false complaint, Seeduwa police had arrested him and confined him to a cell in the police station like a criminal for a period of about 24 hours.

The officer who was acting as the Acting OIC was Inspector of Police Priyadarshana.

Seeduwa police are conducting further investigations regarding the incident.
